I finally got a DS Lite. Almost got one three years ago. But, it was sold out everywhere at the time. Later, I got a Sony PSP. However, the PSP is too slow to load and get to the game. The DS, with its flash based media format, is much quicker. Just turn it on and the game starts almost instantly. Also, you can just close the case and the game will be suspended. Speed is essential if you have a baby at home to take care of. Other factors were that the PSP battery life is terrible and the PSP is not quite as easy to carry around.
I decided to get the DS Lite instead of the new DSi mostly because of the cost. Emma will be playing with it too, so I don't want to invest more than I need to if there is a possibility of it getting destroyed. So far, I only have My Chinese Coach to learn some Mandarin. Emma likes just seeing the device respond to her touch. She also likes the Sketchpad feature of the game to make scribbles on the screen. Will get Emma some puppy game soon.

The DS lite is a great little hand held. You are right about the battery. My PSP's battery drains so fast. Since I don't play it much anymore, I always have to do a full charge before it will turn on. Then, of course, I have to reset the date and time as well. The DS, on the other hand, will retain it's battery for months on end.
PS. I sent you an invite via ps3
PPS. Rhino is my favorite character on Bolt.
I started removing the PSP battery after each session, since I usually put it down for months at a time. So, I have to set the date/time each time. The plus side is that I don't have to recharge it before each use.
Haven't booted up the PS3 in a long time.. but, i'll check out your invite when i do.
hahaha don't let Emma destroy it! Is it still in one piece?
Yup! Still in one piece. So far i have four DS games: My Chinese Coach, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Emma at the Farm, and Nintendogs. I saw Emma at the Farm and couldn't resist buying it. I had to get through most of the story/game to unlock the minigames. Emma likes to play some of the minigames. She also likes to play Nintendogs. For a 21 month old, she's surprisingly good at them. I don't let her play very much, though, because it's not very good ergo for her. But, it's proven to be a good distraction when we need one!
